A Plaisance market vendor was yesterday placed on $10,000 bail after being charged with assaulting a longtime friend after the woman inquired about her husband.
It is alleged that Jennifer Persaud, 46, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, on January 10, at Plaisance Railway Embankment, assaulted Sumintra Brown. Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charge at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
The prosecution told the court that the two women, who are known to each other, had a misunderstanding after Brown went to Persaud’s stall at the Plaisance market to ask for Persaud’s husband. An argument quickly ensued between the two women and an annoyed Persaud allegedly assaulted Brown and threw ice at her three times. Brown made a report to the police station and Persaud was subsequently arrested and charged.
Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul granted Persaud $10,000 bail and ordered her to return to court on March 10.
