Over two weeks after Mon Repos carpenter Ganesh Ramlakhan was allegedly stabbed to death by his cousin, the police are yet to find the perpetrator, who has contacted the family from Suriname to make death threats.
Ramlakhan, 34, a carpenter of Lot 127 Mon Repos Pasture, was fatally stabbed during an altercation with his cousin, Vishal Baldeo, called “Vicky” and “Leader,” on New Year’s Day.
A relative, who asked not to be named, yesterday said that while Baldeo has managed to elude the police since the murder, he called Bibi Ameena Hack, a cousin-in-law of the dead man and a witness to the murder, a few days ago from a number in Suriname.
He reportedly threatened her, saying that he will be returning to kill three more relatives, including her because she had provided the media with information about him.
“He call couple days gone back on a 597 number and seh that he coming for three more a we. So, I tek the phone and tell he that he must turn into the police station because he wanted and he hang up and we neva hear back from he,” the relative said.
The relative also said that they received information from persons that Baldeo was recently seen working on a fishing boat in Suriname. As a result, the woman said they passed on this information and the telephone number from which the man called on to the police in hopes that he will soon be captured.
Hack had related to Stabroek News that she and Ramlakhan were talking when Baldeo pulled up in front of the house in a car. She said he walked towards Ramlakhan and whispered something in his ear. The man responded, “What the [expletive] wrong with yuh boy?”
She had said the suspect then hit Ramlakhan at the back of his neck and ran into the house, where he armed himself with two knives. “I try to hold he back and ask he where he going with them and he push me down and run outside to Ganesh,” Hack said.
She added that a scuffle ensued between the two men and Baldeo dealt Ramlakhan a stab in the region of his heart. As the wounded Ramlakhan attempted to flee, the suspect pushed him to the ground and dealt him two more stabs in his abdomen and back. Reports had also revealed that the suspect also dealt Ramlakhan’s father some chops about his body when he tried to intervene.
A post-mortem examination conducted on Ramlakhan remains revealed that he died as result of a single stab wound to the heart.
