Senior umpire Shannon Crawford was re-elected unopposed as president of the Demerara Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (DCUSA) following the Annual General Meeting Sunday at the Lusignan Community Centre.
According to a release from the association, senior international umpire Nigel Duguid was also returned un-opposed as Vice President while Nolan Hawke (Secretary), former international umpire Edward Nichols (Treasurer), Arleigh Rutherford (Assistant Secretary/Treasurer) and Zaheer Mohamed (Public Relations Officer) will serve in those positions for the next year.
The committee members are Nandkumar Shivsankar, Javed Persaud and Joseph Jeffery.
Speaking after the elections, Crawford thanked the respective sub-associations for their confidence and urged the executives to work together for the development of the association while hinting that fund raising activities are on the agenda for 2016.
Crawford stated that the DCUSA will assist in strengthening the Upper Demerara Association and will conduct training for umpires in the area.
He stated that the DCUSA will advise the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council to apply to the National Sports Commission for funding and the issue of umpires being released to officiate is looked at in the national sports policy.
Crawford also confirmed that training sessions will continue and he will be hosting a workshop Open to all umpires on Friday at 2pm at the Mayor and City Council Union building, Woolford Avenue.
He also praised Duguid on his selection to officiate in the ICC U19 World Cup in Bangladesh and thanked Director of Sport Christopher Jones for his assistance in 2015.
