German’s Restaurant yesterday injected $100,000 as part of their sponsorship ahead of the inaugural Guyana Beach Soccer Association’s (GBSA) National Beach Championships which kicks off January 31, across grounds in Linden.
At a simple presentation held at the restaurant’s New Market Street, North Cummingsburg branch, owner of the restaurant and former chairman of the Normalization Committee of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Clinton Urling, handed over the sponsorship cheque to President of the GBSA Rolland Tappin.
The GBSA will use this tournament as a launch pad for their 2016 calendar of events, said Tappin. Some 10 teams; six from Linden, two from Georgetown and one each from the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara will do battle for a first place prize of $250,000.
Runners-up will receive $100,000, while third and fourth place will pocket $75,000 and $50,000 respectively. The tourney will be played in separate two rounds over an 18-day period with matches played every
Sunday at the Bayroc Community Centre Beach Soccer facility and at Kuru Kururu on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Urling, who said German’s was, “happy to be the food service provider of the tournament,” added that his establishment, which is one of the oldest in Guyana, will continue to support the GBSA in the future.
Apart from the fiscal contribution, Urling confirmed that his restaurant will also be providing the prize for the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Meanwhile, Tappin recognized Urling and his business for
their support. The GBSA became a full-fledged member of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) during October of 2015.
Other sponsors for the inaugural beach competition include; Corona Beer, E-Networks and 104.3 FM (Linden).
