A 13-year-old schoolgirl of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo ended her life on Tuesday, leaving a suicide note behind.
Aaliyah Simon, a second form student of a West Demerara school was found hanging around midday.
Her grandmother, Stephaney Fredericks told Stabroek News yesterday that Simon was keeping a lot on her mind because she talked before about committing suicide. “I told her that she must never put that on her mind because it was wrong,” she said.
Simon’s parents: Onika and Seon work in the interior and left her and her brother in the care of a “guardian,” Jean.
According to Fredericks, who lives next door, she went over to visit them and Jean was doing laundry in the yard.
She inquired about Simon and Jean told her she was sleeping. Shortly after she returned home she “heard the guardian hollering. She tell me to come quick and see what yuh granddaughter do to herself.”
She was shocked to see her body dangling.
On Monday Aaliyah called her parents and was crying uncontrollably and they questioned her about what was bothering her but she kept saying “nothing.”
