The administrator of Uncle Eddie’s Home yesterday voiced her dissatisfaction over city contractors’ dumping of slush from a recent cleaning exercise on the premises, without permission.
According to Administrator Christine Hales, she was made aware of the situation yesterday afternoon. She said she immediately made her way to the office, where she found slush at the entrance and along the entire southern side of the home for the elderly.
Hales noted that while the contractors were performing their job as part of the city council’s ongoing clean-up campaign, they did not dispose of the slush in a sanitary manner.
“They dump it right at that side and right there we have sickly persons at the home staying. There is a terrible stench coming from this thing that can affect these people’s health,” the administrator said.
She said if permission were sought from the home, then the men would have been directed to dump the slush at the back of the building, which usually floods. “This could have avoided any conflict and would have been beneficial to each other [rather] than acting without permission,” Hales said.
Hales was angry at what was done to the surroundings of the home, which are maintained every month to protect the persons living there.
Efforts by Stabroek News to contact Town Clerk Royston King for comment proved futile.
