BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC – Rovman Powell shone with the bat and Chemar Holder with the ball as Combined Campuses and Colleges grabbed their first win of the Regional Super50, producing an incisive bowling performance to beat Windward Islands Volcanoes by 91 runs here Friday.
Defending a meagre 157 all out in 47.5 overs at Warner Park, Marooners bundled out Volcanoes for 66 off 23 overs, to pull off the upset. They were led by teenaged fast bowler Holder who snared five for 22 to destroy the Volcanoes innings while fellow seamer Chris Powell finished with two for 19.
Opener Johnson Charles and left-hander Devon Smith were the only batsmen to reach double figures with ten.
Left-arm spinner Ryan Hinds started the rut when he bowled Andre Fletcher for three at three for one in the second over and Chris Powell accounted for two of the next three wickets to fall, as Volcanoes plunged to 16 for four in the fifth over. Holder then sliced through the middle order to ensure there would be no revival.
Earlier, Marooners had miraculously recovered from 27 for six in the ninth over to reach their eventual score, thanks to Rovman Powell’s 71 and Akeem Dewar’s 35.
They combined in a heroic 93-run, seventh wicket stand which kept Marooners in the contest.
Powell faced 116 balls and counted five fours and three sixes while Dewar hit two fours off 67 deliveries.
Left-arm pacer Delorn Johnson finished with six for 37.
