The MMA-ADA Scheme has served notice of its intention to cancel a series of leases including one for 49.759 acres held by the Regional Democratic Council of Region Five.
In a first publication in Saturday’s edition of the Guyana Chronicle, the Mahaica, Mahaicony, Abary-Agricultural Development Scheme (MMA-ADA) signalled its intention to cancel lease 541 issued in respect of 49.7 acres situated at Plantation Naarstigheid/ Bath, West Coast Berbice and held by the Region Five council for an intended term of 50 years.
The notice said that all persons with any rights, interest or claim to the land and who may want to enter an opposition to the cancellation are requested to do so to the MMA-ADA General Manager, A Charles at the Onverwagt Head Office, West Coast Berbice no later than seven days after the third publication of the notice.
In addition to Region Five, the MMA declared its intention to cancel a number of other leases. These include seven leases of 11.42, 20.81, 14.84, 5.25, 3.94, 157.48 and 20.761 acres on the right bank of the Mahaicony River held by Bhowany Persaud, Ramfol Beni Persaud and Manoel Augutis. The cancellation would allow for a new lease.
Others include Naitram Briglall for 4.36 acres; Jaigobin Ramphal for 29.77 and 29.81 acres on the left bank of the Mahaicony River, 69.5 acres and 25 acres held by Oscar Ross on the left bank of the Abary River, 35.75 acres held by Cecil Alfred Douglas in the rear of No.41 Village, West Coast Berbice, and 39.36 and 21.07 acres on the left bank of the Mahaicony River held by Arjune Ramphal.
Also on the list are leases of 50.8 acres on the left bank of the Mahaica River in the name of Dookie and Outar, 105.78 acres on the right bank of the Mahaica River held by Sharif Husain, Kaliam Husain and Fazil Husain and 65.77 acres on the right bank of the Mahaica River in the name of Shamir Hussain.
