Denzel Wilson, who is accused of robbing an unsuspecting man of his motorbike when he made an unplanned stop at Mon Repos, was on Thursday remanded to prison.
It is alleged that Wilson, 23, on January 10, in the company of others and, allegedly armed with a weapon, robbed Clint Bastian of his motorbike, cell phone and jewellery.
The items carried a total value of $187,000.
Wilson, of Cemetery Road, La Penitence, was not required to plead to the charge, which was read against him at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
According to Prosecutor David Goodridge, Bastian, who was riding along Mon Repos, stopped to fix the straps of his bag but was confronted by an armed Wilson and others.
A report of the crime was made by Bastian and Wilson was found days later by the police with the man’s motorcycle and other articles. The prosecution further told the court that Bastian identified Wilson as the man who robbed him on that day.
Goodridge also objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the crime and the fact that Wilson provided the court with a different address from the one he had given police. Moreover, the prosecutor told the court that more charges are to be laid against the accused.
As a result, Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul remanded Wilson to prison until March 3.
