Dear Editor,
The rainy season is almost with us and many taxpayers in the LBI/Better Hope community are perturbed about the poor drainage system they have. Most of the main drainage has not been cleared recently of tall overgrown bushes which have now almost become trees. There are also tall shrubs which if not cleared by the local authorities would cause overflowing drains and canals and may cause another unnecessary flood on taxpayers’ properties.
I wonder if the powers that be could take a lesson from the Mayor and City Council of our capital, where the authorities have Georgetown’s streets and drains in a much more environmentally acceptable condition than say, twelve months ago.
I hope that the powers that be of the NDC of LBI/Better Hope give consideration also for the desilting of the concrete culvert that drains rainfall and waste water from the Chateau Margot village. Currently that culvert has overgrown bushes which are becoming small trees and thus impeding the free flow of rain and waste water. That culvert needs proper desilting and not mere cutting of the tall bushes.
Yours faithfully,
