Dear Editor,
For those of us who are daily road users, we can testify to how chaotic the morning traffic is with everyone trying to go about their activities in a timely manner. In all the frenzy, too often road users aren’t conscious that they are misusing the roadways by way of speeding, overtaking/undertaking and jaywalking. En route from my home on the East Coast Demerara to my place of work in Georgetown, most times the traffic lights are not on and working and vehicles and pedestrians are free to use the roadways in whichever manner they wish. However, as of recent, I am most pleased to see that Traffic Officers are stationed at almost every junction where traffic lights are installed to assist in ensuring the orderly flow of traffic.
These Officers are out as early as 7 a.m. and must be commended for not only that but they must also be commended for the level of professionalism they display while executing their duties. In addition, with the presence of these officers on the roads, I feel a sense of security, as I know that road users will be more cautious.
My only appeal is that this continues on a daily basis. The roadways are becoming quite congested as every day new vehicles are introduced to the roads and our Traffic Officers play a very vital role in ensuring stability and order is maintained.
Yours faithfully
