Medicine Chest yesterday donated a quantity of football equipment to Tucville-based Fruta Conquerors football club to assist its Elite League U17 programme.
The donation took place at the company’s Middle Street location.
The equipment, valued at over $200,000 includes uniforms, cones, agility ladders and resistance parachutes.
Arron Fraser, speaking on behalf of Medicine Chest, said he wished the team the best of luck at the upcoming tournament adding that this is the first time he has contributed in a formal manner to the club.
Fraser said that the executives and management staff of the club must be praised for the diligent work adding that other clubs should pattern themselves off of the club.
Club Secretary, Daniel Thomas, said that the club approached Medicine Chest for its support and were immediately assured of their willingness to contribute.
He said that the club was very grateful for the donation.
Captain of the Elite U17 squad, Jeremy Garrett, thanked Medicine Chest for its contribution, declaring that it would be a pleasure to compete in the GFF U17 league.
His sentiments were echoed by U17 Elite Coach Seon Hescott who thanked Medicine Chest for supporting the club whilst suggesting that other businesses should follow suit as football clubs need support to reach the next level.
Head Coach of Fruta Conquerors, Calvin Allen, praised Medicine Chest for the contribution and promised that the equipment will be properly cared for and put to good use. Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Technical Developmental Officer (TDO) Lyndon France, said the federation has agreed that the U-17 Elite League should partner its senior counterpart.
He said that if elite athletes are to be produced there was a need to start the process at an early age.
He said it was wonderful to see the corporate sector support the Fruta Conquerors developmental programme and by extension the GFF.
