A man who pelted a brick which hit a teen was ordered to pay compensation to the youth when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Shemroy Victor pleaded guilty to a charge of assault when it was read to him by Magistrate Alex Moore. According to the facts on the matter, on November 30, 2015 at Greenheart Street, Georgetown, Victor assaulted 17-year-old Jamaul Browne by throwing a brick which hit the teen on his forehead.
In pleading guilty, Victor said that on the day in question, he was working on a ‘South’ bus at the minibus park and someone flagged the bus while he was in the process of collecting passengers. He said when the bus came to a halt and he exited the vehicle, someone slapped him and ran into the crowd.
Victor told the court that he picked up a brick to throw at the individual but it hit Browne instead. The man said it was an accident and he did not intend to hit Browne.
After listening to him, Magistrate Moore ordered Victor to pay compensation of $12,500 to Browne as he highlighted that Victor was careless and showed no concern for the other persons around him.
