Clarence Carter, the Linden man who allegedly killed his wife, stabbed her daughter and then tried to take his own life, was charged with murder and remanded to prison yesterday.
It is alleged that Carter, 50, of Phase 1B Wisroc, on January 18th, at his residence murdered his common-law wife, Leolyn Sullivan.
Carter, a carpenter by profession, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, when it was read against him in a city court by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
It was reported that on the day of the attack, Carter stabbed Sullivan, 34, to her body about 15 times before stabbing her daughter and then slit his own throat in a suicide attempt.
The man appeared with his throat and one of his hands heavily bandaged.
Sullivan and her daughter, Shemeka Campbell, were rushed to the Linden Hospital, where the former succumbed to her injuries. Her daughter was treated and subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Carter’s next hearing is set for the Linden Magistrate’s Court on February 2.
