Cristy Campbell scored a shocking upset over number one seed Aretta Dey in a semi-final match of the Rebel Tennis Club tournament winning 7-5, 6-1 Thursday evening.
She will meet with the winner of the second semi-final between Afruica Gentle and Carol Humphrey which took place yesterday at Harry Panday’s residence.
“Obviously it feels good to go out and win after being sidelined with various injuries for the entire 2015. My plan was to stick to my usual game and thankfully things went in my favour,” she said after the match.
According to Campbell she has no intention of changing her winning strategy in tomorrow’s final.
“Going into Sunday’s final I intend to maintain my strategy which has worked thus far and just go out and have fun. There can only be one winner. Win or lose the year has started well for me. I’m working around the clock on my ankle and hopefully I’m in a better comfort zone come Sunday.”
The match was highlighted with long rallies which tested the mental toughness of the two semi-finalists.
In a men’s singles quarter-final encounter number two seed Leyland Leacock defeated Anthony Amerally 6/1, 6/1.
