FATULLAH, Bangladesh, CMC – Captain Shimron Hetmyer and opener Tevin Imlach both pummeled hundreds as West Indies Under-19s turned the page on their recent whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh by crushing Scotland Under-19s in their opening official warm-up of the ICC Under-19 World Cup yesterday.
The Caribbean side piled up 342 for four off 50 overs and then limited the Scots to 194 for seven off their allotted overs to come away with a 148-run victory at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium here yesterday.
Hetmyer carved out 136 off 116 deliveries while Imlach gathered exactly 100 off 115 balls.
Imlach put on 27 for the first wicket with Gidron Pope who scored nine before retiring but Hetmyer joined the fray to extend the partnership to 232 before Imlach retired in the 38th over.
The left-handed Hetmyer struck 16 fours and two sixes and was first to three figures in the 36th over while Imach counted 12 fours in his knock before retiring in the 38th over.
Pope returned to continue his innings and ended on 34.
Scotland picked up their first wicket in the 41st over when Hetmyer finally perished with the score on 266 but the Windies middle ordered ensured the score went beyond 300.
In reply, the Young Windies had a brilliant start when left-arm quick Obed McCoy removed both openers, captain Neil Flack without scoring and Jack Waller for four, with only 15 runs on the board.
However, Ben Wilkinson struck a top score of 63 off 97 balls with 10 fours and Owais Shah, 55 off 82 deliveries with seven boundaries, to revive the innings in a stand of 98 for the third wicket.
Finlay McCreath, who weighed in with 32 from 52 balls with two fours and six, put on 43 for the fourth wicket with Wilkinson before the innings declined, with five wickets tumbling for 34 runs.
Seamer Shamar Springer was behind the collapse, claiming three for 19 in a five-over spell.
West Indies Under-19s face South Africa in their second and final official warm-up tomorrow at the same venue here.
The Windies will do battle in Group C of the tournament alongside England, Fiji and Zimbabwe.
