The stage is set for the Hikers Hockey Club one-day hockey festival and family fun day which will take place this month end at the Saint Stanislaus Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
This was disclosed by the club at a specially arranged launch yesterday
at Antonio’s Grille, Sheriff Street.
At the launch, Hikers Club President Devin Munroe, female Club representative Kenisha Wills and Linden Henry, representative of Stag Beer the official beer of the competition, gave brief insights into this year’s tournament which will take place January 31.
Some 10 teams, comprising Guyana’s best male and female players will duke it out for the G$100,000 first place prize and bragging rights.
Munroe explained that the matches will be played under a round robin format with 24 minutes, 12 minutes per half, being allocated for each match.
He added that teams were picked during the club’s cocktail event where 10 captains were selected and available players were listed and eventually chosen by the captains via a transparent round robin selection process.
Wills, a top female player, said the event will be a spectacle for all hockey lovers, adding that following the tourney, an after party session will be held.
Henry said that Ansa Mcal was happy to be a part of the event and encouraged persons to support the event.
Numerous sponsors such as Kmex, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), 704 Sports Bar, Antonio’s Grille and previous winners of the 2014 edition Jai’s Signs among others, are supporting the event.
The day’s action will commence at 10:00hrs.
