Police in the West Demerara Division are continuing to search for Rudolph Williams, called “Hook,” who remains on the run after he allegedly killed his wife of thirteen years during an argument on Thursday evening at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
A source close to the investigations told Stabroek News that all efforts are currently being made by ranks to locate the man, who was seen dragging the woman into a trench.
Forty-one-year-old Bibi Zabeeda Zamaludeen, also known as ‘Teresa,’ of Seaview, Stewartville, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was found dead by persons who unsuccessfully tried to capture Williams after he was seen attacking the woman.
It had been reported that around 8.30 pm on Thursday the couple, who appeared to have been experiencing problems, were spotted at Zeelugt, where Williams was seen physically and verbally abusing the woman.
His actions prompted a truck driver, who was passing at the time, to shout at him to “stop beating the woman.”
At that stage, the man grabbed the woman by the neck and jumped into the trench. He reportedly proceeded to drag her to the other side of the trench in the bushy area, before lifting her out of the water and placing her at the pump station.
The couple shared a house at Seaview, Stewartville, for the past 13 years during which they lived in an abusive relationship. Zamaludeen is survived by her daughters from a previous relationship: Saskia, 24, Annie, 19 and Suren, 18. According to the young women, Williams was always in the habit of abusing their mother, but she never made any attempts to leave him or make a report at the police station.
An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow.
