Colts, Saturday night won the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) division one title overcoming Plaisance Guardians 68-58 in the final match of their best-of-three series at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Entering the final period slightly ahead at 44-42, the Georgetown unit quickly found themselves behind as Guardians initiated an 11-6 run to take a 53-50 lead with 6:12s remaining.
Colts, however, was to regroup quickly under the stewardship of Shelroy Thomas.
Struggling to make an impact previously, Thomas made his presence felt netting eight points to initiate an 11-7 run which pushed Colts to a 61-56 advantage with 1:20s remaining.
With the seconds ticking away, Guardians, in an attempt to narrow the deficit, made several turnovers which led to a 7-2 run by Colts in the dying moments.
Most Valuable Player Dave Causeway top scored for Colts with 20 points while Thomas, Shane Webster, Kurt English and Nico Fraser netted 12, nine, nine and eight points respectively.
Nikkoloi Smith netted 20 points while Marlon Chesney, Ron Campbell and Mark Richards netted 10, eight and six points correspondingly for the Guardians.
The encounter for the most part was reminiscent of their earlier fixtures in the series. Game one of the event finished 77-76 in favour of Guardians while match two ended 77-74 in favour of Colts.
The first period was all about the Parade ground unit as they outscored Guardians 18-8.
Much like their previous encounters, Guardians snatched the lead during the second quarter fashioning a 16-5 run to take the lead 24-23 with 1:05s remaining.
Colts battled back in the dying moments to level proceedings at 27-27 going into the half.
The third quarter witnessed another keenly fought tussle as both sides tried to seize the momentum entering the final period.
Colts got the better of the exchanges in the pivotal quarter, netting 17 points to Guardians 15 points to lead 44-42 entering the final period.
Colts duly clinched the contest in the final quarter, outhustling Guardians 24-16.
In the earlier match, Knights defeated Melanie Patriots 63-57 in their second division third place playoff.
Mortimer Williams of Republic Bank Nets and Travis Belgrave of Eagles were awarded the MVP titles for the second division and U23 divisions respectively.
