North Georgetown fashioned the first upset of the fourth annual Milo Schools U20 football championships downing former winners Lodge Secondary 3-1 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
It was the Nehemiah Gomes show as the forward recorded a hat-trick to propel the Woolford Avenue unit to the unlikely win.
Gomes broke the deadlock in the 15th minute with an absolute thunderbolt of a volley after pouncing on a loose ball.
The Jamoon Drive unit then pulled one back in the 22nd minute as Keoma Crawford netted, placing a right footed shot unchallenged into the back of the net.
North Georgetown was afforded a great chance to retake the lead after they earned a penalty in the 28th minute. However, the opportunity was wasted as the effort was fired wide of the top right hand corner.
Gomes made his presence felt once more in the 53rd minute, skipping past his marker in the left side of the box after collecting a right side cross, before rifling his left-footed strike into the lower right corner.
He the completed his hat-trick and the eventual upset win three minutes later, placing his left-footed attempt past the advancing goalkeeper into the net, after racing into the right side of the penalty area.
Lodge was awarded a penalty in the 67th minute following a hand-ball infraction, however, the effort was placed wide of the lower right corner.
Meanwhile, Morgan Learning Centre displayed early championship credentials, downing North Ruimveldt 4-0. Recent recruit Shane Luckie led the way with a hat-trick in the 27th, 36th and 46th minutes.
Completing the score line with a 50th minute strike was Mark McLean.
Also securing a win was St. Joseph’s High who defeated Brickdam 5-0.
Stephen Isaacs led the Woolford Avenue unit with a second half hat-trick in the 51st, 59th and 64th minutes while Dwight Ferguson and Nkosi Patterson added to the score sheet with strikes in the 55th and 62nd minutes respectively.
In the final match of the day, Queen’s College dismantled Houston Secondary 6-2. Kevin Wills, Damani Thomas, Ashmar Angel, Jumal Sampson, D’Andre Kirton and Stephen King scored in the 15th, 22nd, 27th, 32nd, 53rd and 60th minutes for the winning team.
On target in the loss was Hassian Nedd and Andre Hinds in the 55th and 58th minutes respectively.
