Some GTT employees afforded optional retirement

GTT employees who are 55 years and over and have served the company for at least ten years were recently offered the option of voluntary retirement, a release from the telephone company said.

Employees who fall within this group were given individual letters which outlined the offer. The release said that GTT Executive Management also met with them where it was emphasised that the acceptance or rejection of the offer is one of individual choice. GTT said that the primary reason for this exercise was to ensure that the pension scheme remains viable to the benefit of all employees

It noted that one of the benefits of being employed by GTT is membership to its non-contributory defined benefit pension plan. Employees become eligible to benefit from the scheme after serving for 10 years.

“The company sees the voluntary offer made to employees as a win for both long-serving employees and consumers. Employees win because they are being given a unique opportunity to take advantage of a one time, 100% pension payout,” GTT said.

The company said it is excited about its future plans in which significant investments in some key areas are expected to be announced soon.

The company said that it remains optimistic that 2016 is the year in which it will be granted spectrum for 4G mobile data and the telecommunications sector is liberalised in order to ensure that all players are on a level playfield.
