The PPP/C will today present to the Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) 70 lists to contest 550 Constituencies and nine Municipalities in the upcoming Local Government Elections.
In a press release it issued yesterday, the party provided information on what could be expected for today’s Nominations Day and the March 18 elections.
According to the party, which has the cup as its symbol, there is a 50-50 balance between PPP and Civic candidates who will be contesting 70 of the 71 Neighbourhood Democra-tic Councils.
The release said that notwithstanding “the pernicious attempts” by the APNU+AFC through the distribution of “boots, boats and bicycles in communities with a political preference and objective in mind, it has failed to make any impact and on the PPP’s ability to garner candidates and backers,” save for the local authority area of Mocha/Arcadia. It claimed that because of the “promotion of a fear and divisive campaign mounted by the APNU+AFC,” it was unable to field a candidate in this area.
The party expressed its gratitude to all its members, activists and supporters who worked hard to enable it to successfully reach the Nominations Day stage and expressed confidence of success on March 18.
