The residents of Bartica are strongly embracing the momentum of its developmental thrust, but are displeased with a recently published letter that sought to misinform them about the administrative standards being achieved in Bartica’s preparation for becoming a town (‘BIGA is offering alternatives to the party politics which has dominated local government for years’ SN, January 18).
The letter initially commended the Government of Guyana for ensuring that local government elections occur this year, without stating what the government’s visions and plans are relative to this. The letter then provided the reason why some were supporting a Bartica Alliance: it was said they are discontented with the current leadership in Bartica. Bartica could not do without the Alliance, the letter went on to say, because nothing had been done locally by the township’s leaders from 2011 to address their legitimate concerns.
The principals of the Bartica Alliance were also not made known, and only a statement about what the prerequisites for community leaders was given. This clearly indicated that their focus appeared to be only that of control and they were not concerned with the bigger picture of Bartica becoming a model Green Town within Guyana’s National Green Economy Plan.
The letter also then used the term “blessings of the people,” instead of conveying the fact that the Proportional Representation top up lists must be accompanied by 110 supporting signatures.
The residents of Bartica would like to make it known that any attack on its image of becoming Guyana’s Model Green Town will not be encouraged, and they are genuinely determined to put Bartica’s development first, instead of self.
