Ithaca Hard-Liners gained a walkover from Hopetown Steelers when the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah Memorial Basketball Championships continued Sunday at the Ithaca Basketball Court.
The Hard-Liners secured the result after Steelers failed to take the playing area with the required number of players to start the contest. The eight team event will continue January 31st at the Fyrish Basketball Court.
In the lone fixture at 16:00hrs, Smithfield Rockers will oppose New Amsterdam Warriors. The event which is slated to be played in an initial round-robin format, will see the eight teams divided into two groups.
Group-A of the event will consist of Fyrish Black Sharks, Rose hall town Jammers, Canje Knights and Rose Hall while on the other hand, group-B will comprise of Ithaca Hardliners, Hopetown Steelers, Smithfield Rockers and New Amsterdam Warriors.
Following the conclusion of the group stage, the respective group winner and runner-up will progress to the knockout round. In the earlier matchup, Fyrish Black Sharks defeated Rose Hall Town Jammers 62-57.
Linden Joseph top scored for the Black Sharks with 20 points while Rayel Franklin and Tafawa Cort chipped win with 11 and 10 points correspondingly. Kevon Wiggins recorded the game-high 21 points for the losing team.
Chipping in with nine and five points were Osafo Profitt and Terry Cort respectively.
Trophies and cash incentives are at stake while an award will also be given to the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
