Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), Winston Brassington, has resigned from his post.
He confirmed this with Stabroek News last evening but did not provide any specific reason for his resignation.
According to the government, Brassington and his deputy Marcia Nadir-Sharma were sent on leave on December 23, to facilitate investigations by the Guyana Police Force and the Special Organized Crime Unit stemming from an audit of NICIL.
However, Brassington had told Stabroek News when contacted that he had already proceeded on vacation from his accumulated two-month vacation time and had expressed shock at government saying he was sent on leave.
The audit by former Auditor-General Anand Goolsarran, among other things, recommended criminal and/or disciplinary action against all those responsible for the interception of state revenues totalling $26.858 billion in violation of the constitution. He had said that several laws were broken.
Brassington had served in the Privatization Unit from 1994, two years later he became the head of the unit and head of NICIL in 2002. He exits with over 20 years of experience in the area.
