The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder of political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing began at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday with his parents taking the stand.
Regan Rodrigues known as ‘Grey Boy,’ was charged with Crum-Ewing’s murder in August last year after a gun allegedly found in his possession was linked to the crime. He was, however, cleared of the gun and ammunition possession charge earlier this month after Magistrate Fabayo Azore found that the prosecution had failed to prove his knowledge and possession of the articles.
Taking the stand yesterday before Magistrate Judy Latchman were Crum-Ewing’s parents, Donna and Eustace Harcourt. They are the first in a long line-up of witnesses being called by case prosecutor Nigel Hughes. The PI is set to continue on February 24.
Crum-Ewing was killed on the evening of March 10, 2015 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara as he was urging residents to vote in the May 2015 elections.
For weeks prior to his death, he held a one-man protest outside the office of then Attorney General Anil Nandlall, calling for his resignation over controversial statements he made during a telephone conversation with a Kaieteur News reporter that was made public.
