Cops hoping autopsy sheds light on death of Drill farmer

Police are looking to the results of an autopsy scheduled for today on the body of Drill, Mahaicony farmer Kurt Burke to determine whether he was murdered.

Burke, 41, was found at about 9.30 am on Wednesday on the main road at Drill with injuries suspected to have been caused in a hit-and-run accident, the police had said.

The man’s family, however, strongly believes that he was murdered due to the extent of his injuries, including a severed foot.

Commander of ‘C’ Division Marlon Chapman told Stabroek News that the police are still treating the man’s death as an accident. Chapman explained that they would be able to probe further after the autopsy today.

Candacy, a cousin of the dead man, told Stabroek News that the family has received reports that a blue pick-up truck and two cars had stopped in the vicinity of where the body was found and when a passerby stopped and asked what happened they said they had hit a cow.

However, members of Burke’s family remain adamant that he was murdered.

Burke was last seen alive on Tuesday afternoon. His cousin said he had been at an aunt’s house assisting with some chores. It was explained that Burke, a father of five, left and went to his home, where he picked up some fish to take back to his aunt’s home. However, he never made it back.
