A Cummings Street man was yesterday sentenced to three years in prison after he admitted to trafficking 20 grammes of cannabis.
Davanand Edghill, of 196 Cummings Street, Bourda, pleaded guilty to a charge which stated that on January 27, at the Alberttown Police Station, he had 20 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The court was told that Edghill had been arrested at Orange Walk, Bourda, after a bag of Karibee rice he was carrying was searched and a transparent parcel containing leaves, seeds and stems were uncovered.
Edghill had admitted under caution that the narcotics belonged to him and had been purchased for his personal use.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan sentenced the defendant to three years in prison and ordered that he pay a fine of $30,000.
