The Speaker of the National Assembly and Members of Parliament (MPs) yesterday observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect for prominent attorney at law Hukumchand Parag, who died last Sunday after a period of illness.
Moments after yesterday’s sitting of the National Assembly began, the Speaker Barton Scotland informed that the attorney, who was a former MP representing the People’s National Congress (PNC), died at his Queenstown residence. He was 69 years old.
He said that the attorney took up a seat in parliament following the 1992 general and regional elections. Scotland informed that Hukumchand served as a member of the Sixth Parliament from October 24, 1992 to October 29, 1997, when it was dissolved.
Hukumchand Parag will be cremated at the Memorial Gardens and Crematorium located at Princes Street and Louisa Row at 3 pm today. This will be preceded by a viewing at the Sandy’s Funeral Home and a funeral service at the Redeemer Lutheran Church Sheriff Street, at 9 am and 1 pm respectively.
