The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) will, from today, stage a seven-round Swiss system chess tournament sponsored by Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
The tournament, which will be held at the National Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue, kicks off activities for the year by the GCF and the round robin tournament is expected to attract the country’s top players.
Only one round will be played today beginning at 1.30pm with two rounds set for tomorrow, the first beginning at 09:30am.
The remaining four rounds will take place next weekend.
According to a press release, Managing Director of the Trophy Stall, Ramesh Sunich, said it was his company’s delight to sponsor the first chess competition of 2016 and pointed out that several beautiful trophies will be up for grabs.
The Trophy Stall, with branches in Bourda Market, the City Mall and on South Road, has been an avid supporter of the GCF’s programme and president of the Federation, Irshad Mohamed, was once again grateful for the partnership with the establishment, the release stated.
