It was a day highlighted by upsets as Bishops’ High and School of the Nations defeated South Ruimveldt and Central High respectively when the fourth annual Milo Schools U20 football championships continued yesterday.
Played at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, Bishops’ High overcame South Ruimveldt 2-1. Following a cagey opening period, the Carmichael Street unit took the lead in the 37th minute via a penalty kick.
Lloyd Anderson made no mistake duly converting into the lower left hand corner with a left footed strike.
South Ruimveldt was presented with a perfect chance to level the score as they too were awarded a penalty kick after the forward stole ball off the final defender, only to be brought down inside the box.
Adrian Aaron too made no mistake finishing into the lower right hand corner with right boot past the diving hand of the custodian.
Bishops’ High snatched the hard-fought win in the 73rd minute as Tyrese Souvenir, upon stealing the ball from the final defender following miscommunication involving the goalkeeper, finished his effort powerfully into the left hand corner from the centre of the box.
School of the Nations downed Central High 2-0 with Lyndon Dorway opening the scoring in the 13th minute.
He then sealed the win in the 47th minute, latching onto a through pass unchallenged within the right side of the box, before placing shot into the lower left hand corner
The opening fixture of the day witnessed Richard Ishmael defeating Carmel Secondary 3-0 with goals from Tamiel Hutson, Isaiah Jacks and Closson McLaren in the fifth, 30th and 36th minutes respectively.
The matchup was marred as Shevin Seepaul of Richard Ishmael and Calvin Prince of Carmel Secondary were shown red cards in the 30th and 31st minutes respectively. In the second fixture, Christ Church defeated Sir Leon Lessons via walkover.
The action will then continue today at the same venue with another four fixtures. In the curtain raiser, St. John’s College will lock horns with inaugural champ St. George’s High from 11:00hrs.
In the second fixture of the day, Freeburg Secondary will match skills with Mae’s Secondary from
12:30hrs while Queenstown Secondary will faceoff with Tutorial Secondary in the third matchup at 14:00hrs.
The final showdown of the day will witness Charlestown Secondary battling St. Rose’s High from 15:30hrs.
