Some 40 boxers have been shortlisted by the Guyana Boxing Asso-ciation (GBA) for possible selection to compete at the first International School Boys, Juniors and Youth Tournament to be held here in April.
According to president of the association, Steve Ninvalle, the boxers have been drawn from the Forgotten Youth Foundation Gym, Essequibo Boxing Gym, Carryl’s Boxing Gym, the Harpy Eagles Gym, GDF, Pocket Rocket Gym, Rose Hall Jammers and the New Opportunity Corps (NOC).
The four-nation tournament is scheduled for April 29-30 with Guyana hosting boxers and officials from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and St. Lucia.
The shortlisted boxers are as follows from:
Pocket Rocket: Akea Lamazone, Rianna Rogers and Rondessa Bagot, Herman White, Joel Allicock and Duel Augustine.
Guyana Defence Force: Quincy Boyce and Kevin Walton.
Rose Hall Jammers: Jamal Eastman.
New Opportunity Corps: Kevin Griffith and Nicko Jodha.
Forgotten Youth Foundation: Seon Griffith, Stephon Smith, Orin Bancroft, Jamie Kellman, Dwayne Baptise, Sean Graham, Travis Inverary, Shakiem Jones, Brian Harris, Orin Harris and Shamar Bumbury.
Essequibo: Shaquincy Wright, Delroy Elcock, Deron Williams, Quancy Wright, Junior Hyman, Deshon Elcock, Shaquille Wright, Christopher Moore, Shaka Moore and Akiel Mounter.
Carryl Boxing Gym: Joshua Corbin and Mohammad Bacchus.
Sebert Blake was appointed head coach of the squad.
