A man was yesterday released on self-bail by a city court after denying a charge that he slapped his common-law wife.
According to the charge read against Sherdon Rodney, on January 31, at Lot 76 Breda and Hadfield streets, he assaulted Angela Ramjohn by slapping her.
The accused, who resides at the same address where the alleged assault occurred, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Rodney told Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan that on the day in question, he and his wife had an argument and he held her by her face but did not slap her. His wife stated that he had never hit her before and that it was the first time such a situation had occurred.
As a result, the magistrate placed Rodney on self-bail and ordered to sign a bond for good behaviour until the completion of the matter. His next court date is February 12.
