Across the country, the Guyana Police Force has been engaging in community outreaches with emphasis on the empowering of youths, a release from the police said yesterday.
In ‘A’ Division (Georgetown/East Bank Demerara) Divisional Commander ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken visited the Alberttown, Queenstown and North Sophia Police Youth Clubs where he interacted with the youths, the release said.
The Divisional Commander accompanied by Pastor Ewarth Williams who is attached to the COPS and Faith Community Network also visited the Agricola Chosen Generation Police Youth Club where a presentation on suicide was given.
Motivational sessions on leadership, teamwork and public speaking were also held with youths attached to the Timehri and Yarrowkabra Youth Clubs while a seven a side Futsal competition among teams from Police Youth Clubs in the Division was held at the Police Sports Club ground.
In ‘E’ Division (Linden/Kwakwani), the release said that ranks of the Mabura Police Outpost in collaboration with residents of the community carried out repairs to the fence of the Mabura Primary School with support from members of the business community.
Also the Library at the Mackenzie Police Station received a donation of books and magazines from businesswoman Janice Moore-Mc Calmont of J&C Renaissance.
The Divisional Administration of ‘G’ Division (Essequibo Coast and Islands) held an award ceremony for students of Police Youth Clubs who had excelled academically and in sports during 2015, the release added.
Police ranks also met and held discussions with members of the community and the Cotton Field Secondary School Parent-Teacher Association on January 21, 2016 where issues discussed included suicide, violence and substance abuse in schools.
On Monday February 1, 2016 the police in ‘B’ Division (Berbice) established another Youth Group at Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice which involves students of the Edinburgh Primary School.
