Wanted man Delroy Joseph called Barney who was shot last week, when police swooped down on a house at Nicolay Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice, appeared on Tuesday, at the New Amsterdam Court, where police instituted charges of robbery under arms, break and enter and larceny and trafficking narcotics.
Appearing before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus, the prisoner, pleaded not guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics. However, neither he nor his co accused Paul Wilson, were required to plead to the remaining indictable charges.
Police said on July 10, last ranks were on a mobile patrol along the Heathburn Public Road in the vicinity of the GuyOil Gas Station, when the defendant was observed with a black travelling bag acting suspiciously. Confronted by police, the defendant dropped the bag and escaped. The bag, which was retrieved, when opened, contained leaves, seeds and stems which weighed one kilogramme. Since that date several checks were made for the defendant, however acting on information, police arrested him on January 28.
Meanwhile, on December 16, last Joseph and Wilson, while being armed with a gun robbed Barof (one name) of $150,000 property of David Armogan.
On that date, Barof was the cashier at the Sand and Supplies Store at Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, when the defendant armed with a gun demanded the cash, before discharging a round and relieving the employee of the money.
Between January 4 and 5, last the defendants allegedly broke and entered the home of Kenanther Adolph, of Budhan Scheme, Vryheid Village, and stole a 32’’ flat screen television valued $90,000.
On the following day, at Alexander Street, New Amsterdam, police said the defendants broke and entered the home of Ockley Hinds, removing a 42’’ television and a television stand totaling $179,760.
Police Sergeant Phillip Sheriff objected to bail, highlighting the prevalence of the offence.
Further, the prosecutor told the court that several others matters are pending and charges are likely to be instituted shortly.
Questioned by the court as to whether they had anything to say, the defendants responded in the negative. Consequently, the men were refused bail, and remanded to prison until February 15 for report.
