A taxi driver accused of stealing a bag containing money and a cellphone, denied the allegation yesterday when he made an appearance before a city court.
No details were given as to how the bag was stolen, but the charge yesterday stated that the accused, Deryck Pillay, stole a purse valued $500, containing $27,000 and a Samsung Galaxy cellphone worth $40,000, belonging to Petal Lampkin.
The offence was said to have occurred on January 30, at Leopold Street.
Pillay pleaded not guilty to the charge and was placed on $35,000 bail by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Pillay is set to make his next appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on February 9, in Court 1.
