Two men were yesterday charged separately with possession of one gramme each of cannabis.
It is alleged that Keron Stevenson, 27, of GuySuco reserve, Vryheid’s Lust South, East Coast Demerara had one gramme of marijuana at his residence on February 2.
In the case of Christopher Durga, 30, of Lot 10 Better Hope South, East Coast Demerara, it was also alleged that he had one gramme of the prohibited drug at his residence on the same day.
Stevenson and Durga pleaded not guilty to their individual charges of drug possession after they were read to them by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Better Hope Community Centre, which is being used to hear matters being dealt with by the Sparendaam Magistrate’s court. Durga, who was previously charged with a similar offence, was placed on $15,000 bail, and was ordered to return to court on March 18. Meanwhile, Stevenson, was fined $7000 and was given until March 9, to pay the court.
