Spinners Gudakesh Motie and Veerasammy Permaul ripped through Robin Bacchus’s XI top-order to leave the team 115-4 on the second day of the ongoing Guyana Jaguars preparatory three-day match at the Georgetown Cricket Club, ground, Bourda.
At the end of the second day’s play, Bacchus’s XI trailed Vishaul Singh’s XI by 168 runs.
Singh’s XI had racked up 383 runs in their first innings with Assad Fudadin (145), Rajendra Chandrika (86) and Anthony Bramble 67 not out the principal scorers.
Yesterday Singh’s XI spinners Motie, the leading wicket-taker in this season’s Regional four-day competition, picked up 2-29 while Permaul snatched 2-36.
In their score of 115-4, Bacchus played a gritty innings of 55 runs from 122 balls with eight fours.
Chandrapaul Hemraj (37 not out) and Devendra Bishoo (two not out), will resume their innings today.
Bacchus and Kandasammy Surujnarine (13), took on Singh’s XI bowlers Keon Joseph, Motie, Permaul and others, taking the score to 60 without loss at tea.
Bacchus, 44 at the tea break lost Surujnarine upon resumption, caught by Tagenarine Chanderpaul off Permaul to leave the score 60-1.
Bacchus the dug in and was made to work hard for his 50, after being stuck on 44 for some 58 minutes after tea before eventually reaching his milestone.
Permaul was the chief tormentor of Bacchus was rewarded with the wicket of the skipper who was adjudged out LBW.
Gajanand Singh’s return to senior cricket with the bat saw him making only four runs as he was caught by Chanderpaul off Motie and Johnathan Foo
was next out caught at short mid-wicket by Kevon Boodie off Motie for a single run leaving Bishoo and Hemraj unbeaten at stumps.
Earlier, resuming on 280-6, with Bramble (12) and Permaul (02), the batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking along with sensible shots around the partially lush Bourda ground.
Bramble was aggressive early on and raced to his half-century off 97 deliveries while Permaul progressed to 29 before he was bowled by Devendra Bishoo (3-90) who mopped up the tail. Dexter Solomon’s low string of scores continued when he was stumped for seven runs off Bishoo while Motie had his stumps rattled for duck and Shepherd was run out for 10.
Today’s final day resumes at 9:00hrs.
