A fourth man was charged yesterday with the armed robbery of the Bank of Baroda branch at Mon Repos, from where over $2 million was stolen.
Shawn Harris, 27, of Lot 131 Pike Street, Kitty, was remanded to prison after he was arraigned at the Better Hope Community Centre.
It is alleged that Harris, on January 22nd, at Mon Repos, while being in the company of others, robbed Raywanttie Lall and Latchmie Mohabir of $2,075,900 in cash, which was the property of the Bank of Baroda. It was also alleged that he robbed Shirley Lucas of a .32 Taurus revolver, which was the property of Roshan Khan Security Service.
Those already charged are Sean Aaron, Kennard Jabar and Eon Campbell, while a fifth suspect, Timothy Asher Morrison, 26, of Lot 40 Bougainvillea Park, East Bank Demerara, remains on the run. Police Prosecutor David Goodridge objected to bail being granted to Harris since the other three men who were charged had been remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. Goodridge said after Harris along with three others robbed the bank staff, the police, acting on information, went to the home of one of the accused and found some of the money.
The bank was robbed when four men, one of whom was armed with a gun, entered and held up the lone female private security guard on duty and took away her service revolver. During the attack, which lasted for about five minutes, the men then held up the two female tellers, grabbing the cash and escaping in a waiting car bearing false licence plate PNN 8984.
Magistrate Ally-Seepaul denied bail to Harris and remanded him to prison until February 18th, when his next hearing is scheduled.
