National left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie continued his form this season with another 5-wicket haul in yesterday’s rain affected three-day Guyana Jaguars practice match which concluded at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground.
Played between the Vishaul Singh XI and the Robin Bacchus XI, Motie, the leading wicket-taker in this season’s Professional Cricket League four-day competition, ended with 5 for 57 which strangled the Bacchus XI for 191 in pursuit of the Singh’s XI first innings of 383. Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul (3-40) and fast bowler Keon Joseph (2-35), supported Motie well.
With a lead of 193, Singh’s XI openers Tagenarine Chanderpaul (35) and Rajendra Chandrika (29) sought to add more runs to the total before the speedster Raun Johnson disturbed the stumps of the West Indies Test opener Chandrika.
The aggressive Kevon Boodie (10) and Chanderpaul became the first two victims of the West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo who also accounted for the wickets of Raymon Reifer (11) and Singh (12) who batted well to reach double figures, as they looked to find some form before the match was called off.
Earlier, after resuming on 115-4 the Bacchus XI overnight pair of Hemraj (37) and Bishoo (02) resumed their innings under some overcast weather.
Hemraj was fluent all through his innings and reached his fifty with five fours and two sixes before Motie snatched him up, ending his 120 minute stay at the crease.
Off-spinner Anthony Adams struck a fluent 29 batting at number 10 while wicketkeeper/batsmen Kemol Savoury (28) and Anthony Bramble (15*), batted until close of play at 130-5.
The defending champions and table leaders Guyana Jaguars will resume their title defence from Friday February 12 at Providence against the arch rivals, the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.
