An Atlantic Ville man was on Thursday remanded to prison on ten charges, including fraud and forgery of US currency notes.
Rohee Ramsamujh, 30, of 23 Atlantic Ville, East Coast Demerara, was unrepresented when he made his appearance before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Better Hope Community Centre.
He was charged with four counts of fraud and six counts of forgery.
The four charges of fraud allege that between January 16th and January 30th, with intent to defraud, Ramsamujh uttered to Yogawatti Bridgemohan a total of US$450 to be converted to Guyanese currency, knowing that the currency notes were fake.
Meanwhile, the six charges of forgery allege that between January 3rd and January 30th, he forged a total of US$600.
Ramsamujh pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
Police Prosecutor David Goodridge objected to bail, while noting that Ramsamujh was charged with an offence that is similar in nature in Berbice. However, the matter there was dismissed since no evidence was given against him.
The prosecutor said that if Ramsamujh is granted bail, he would not return given the number of charges facing him.
Before Magistrate Ally-Seepaul remanded Ramsamujh, she asked the prosecutor to seek advice from the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions on the matter. Ramsamujh is expected to be back in court on March 28th.
