North Georgetown, North Ruimveldt and Queen’s College secured easy group wins when the fourth annual Milo Schools U20 football championships continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue
North Ruimveldt downed Houston Secondary 4-1 margin with Matthew Harrison recording a double in the 15th and 37th minutes while Ashaish Alleyne and Tyrese Rowley scored in the 13th and 48th minutes respectively.
Denzil Heywood scored for Houston Secondary in the 25th minute. Meanwhile, North Georgetown hammered Brickdam Secondary 8-1 with Nehemiah Gomes netting a helmet trick in the 18th, 27th, 29th and 58th minutes.
Supporting in the win was Rayon Bailey, Daniel Nedd, Osafa Matheson and Rueben Miller who netted in the 15th, 34th, 38th and 50th minutes correspondingly. Netting for the losing side was Rawl Williams in the 70th.
Queen’s College received a walkover from Morgan Learning Centre after the latter withdrew from the championship while former winners Lodge Secondary battled to a 1-1 draw with St. Joseph’s High.
The Woolford Avenue unit took the lead in the 25th minute as Stephan Isaacs scored, skipping past marker within the right side of the box before rifling his powerful left footed strike into the top right hand corner.
However, the Jamoon Street unit levelled proceedings in the 39th minute as a powerful Shemar Smith strike from 24 yards out in the centre of the field, went through the hands of the ‘keeper and into the lower right hand corner.
Lodge Secondary was then presented with a great chance to snatch the lead in the 59th minute as they were awarded a penalty kick following a handball infraction.
Tasked with the responsibility, Smith disappointed as he was denied from the mark. However Lodge Secondary was given a second chance from the mark as the lineman deemed the custodian had left his goal-line before the kick was taken.
Nonetheless, the second chance for Lodge Secondary amounted to the same result as the second kicker placed the effort onto the left upright, thus earning St. Joseph’s a point.
The action will continue on Saturday at the same venue.
