Royal Youths downed Sparta Boss when the Corona Beer National Beach Football Championship continued Sunday.
Following the conclusion of the opening fixture at the Kuru-Kururu Beach Facility, the event was brought to an abrupt halt as the lighting facilities failed, forcing the abandonment of the remaining four fixtures.
Tourney coordinator Rollin Tappin said that the matches will be rescheduled to a later date and that the fixtures will continue as programmed.
Prior to the unfortunate end, Royal Youths overcame Georgetown based outfit Sparta Boss by a 4-3 score line.
The matches rescheduled are Attention Family versus Alexander Village, Silver Bullets against Buxton Youth Developers, West Front Road versus Cool Runnings and Hi-Stars against Kuru-Kururu Warriors.
The event will resume Sunday at the Bayroc Community ground in Linden with another five group fixtures.
In the opening showdown, Kuru-Kururu will tackle Cool Runnings while Buxton Youth Developers and West Front Road will oppose Alexander Village and Sparta Boss respectively.
The final two fixtures of the day will witness Attention Family opposing Hi-Stars and Royal Youths tackling Silver Bullets.
The championship will be contested in a two-round format over an 18-day period. Matches will be played every Sunday at the Bayroc Community Centre Beach Soccer facility and at Kuru Kururu on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Winner of the event will receive the championship trophy and $250,000 while the second, third and fourth place units will collect the respective accolade and $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 correspondingly. Other sponsors of the event include E-Networks and 104.3 FM (Linden).
