Just over a week after a wanted bulletin was issued for his arrest, alleged fraudster Dhanraj Raghubir on Monday turned up at a city court for a scheduled hearing.
Raghubir was wanted by the Guyana Police Force for questioning in relation to investigations into several counts of obtaining money by false pretence.
Subsequent to his being charged in December, police had indicated that about 20 persons came forward stating that the accused defrauded them as well.
It is alleged that he had attempted to forge United States (US) visas for about 20 other persons, having obtained a total of $1M from 19 of those persons.
Although a wanted bulletin was issued for Raghubir, he was not arrested onMonday. He was, however, ordered by Magistrate Judy Latchman to return to the court on February 22 for report.
Raghubir was employed by Creative Concepts, a social media marketing company, when he first appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on December 31, 2015, and was read a charge which stated that on October 25, at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, he forged a United States of America embassy appointment letter.
Raghubir denied the allegation.
He was also read an additional charge, which stated that on October 25, at Georgetown, he uttered to Vanessa Gomes, a United States of America embassy appointment letter purported to be issued by the US Embassy, knowing same to be false. Raghubir denied that allegation as well and was then placed on $50,000 bail.
