ST.JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC- Coach of the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Reginald Benjamin says his players are more prepared mentally to make the most of opposition weaknesses when they resume their campaign in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket league (PCL) later this week.
Hurricanes are on the hunt for revenge against Jamaica Scorpions who beat them by 30 runs in a second round match at Sabina Park last November.
The two teams will meet from tomorrow in round six of the competition at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground in Antigua.
The Leewards had Jamaica on the ropes at 69 for six in the first match but allowed them to recover to 243.
“If that situation arises again we are not going to let them go to 243 because we are much more prepared mentally,” said Benjamin.
“So now the guys realize that no one is going to really roll over for the Leewards and people are going to fight. So we are going to apply the same technical and tactical game plan that we have.”
Hurricanes are languishing at the bottom of the table with 13 points after losing all five matches played so far.
However, Benjamin said that he remains confident that his players can give a better account of themselves when the tournament resumes.
He says their preparation for the resumption of the league included warm-up matches, game-play situation and mental preparation.
“We have not let up at all because we know that our second half is what most people are looking to judge us by, so we have done a lot of work in that department,” said Benjamin.
“When we look at the first five games they are a couple of games that we should have won so I take that into consideration. My goal was to finish third or fourth because that was tangible now fourth looks more likely but we are going to try to see if we can do better than that.”
