A Plaisance duo who pleaded not guilty to assaulting and causing grievous bodily harm to a neighbour had to find $40,000 bail yesterday after answering to the charges before the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that Dennis Agard, 28, of 29 Victoria Road, Plaisance, unlawfully assaulted and made use of threatening language to Teresa Critchlow on January 10, at Plaisance.
Olinka Agard, 23, of 29 Victoria Road, Plaisance, it is alleged, maliciously and unlawfully inflicted grievous bodily harm to Critchlow on the same day. The charges were read to them by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Better Hope Community Centre, which is temporarily housing the court.
Police Prosecutor Shevon Jupiter did not object to bail but suggested that the defendants be placed on a bond to maintain the peace pending the outcome of the case, since both they and the defendants reside in the same yard.
Bail was granted to Dennis Agard to the sum of $10,000 each on his two charges, while Olinka Agard was granted $20,000 bail on her charge. The two were also placed on a bond to keep the peace. The case was adjourned to March 16, for a probation report.
