A rancher accused of stealing a horse was on Tuesday placed on $25,000 bail after his lawyer said that he had been given the animal to keep for a friend.
It was alleged that between November 1st and 30th, 2015, at St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, Martin Scipio stole a brown stallion horse valued $120,000, belonging to Bernard Simon.
Scipio, of Moco Moco Village, Central Rupununi pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was represented by attorney Jed Vasconcellos, who said that such occurrences where animals were left in the care of others were not uncommon in the area, especially given Scipio’s line of work as a rancher.
The prosecution did not provide differing facts on the matter.
Bail was set at $25,000 and the matter has been adjourned to February 29th and transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
