Three people were injured, one critically, following an explosion on board a ship docked at the Guyana National Shipping Company (GNSC) wharf yesterday afternoon.
According to reports, the ship’s engineer, Shane Walker, Blaze (only name given) and another person who is still to be identified, were injured in the explosion aboard a cargo ship.
Crewmember Marvin Moriah said the incident occurred around 4 pm. He said he believed that vapours were ignited, since he did not think the explosion started with the ship’s engine.
Moriah also told this newspaper that Walker, whom he helped rush to the hospital, complained of not feeling on his left side.
Walker is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
