Three persons died when a car smashed into the motorcycle they were on at Annai, North Rupununi this morning.
Dead are Henry George, 59, his wife Belinda George, 48, and Belinda’s brother Davis Williams, 43, all of Annai, North Rupununi, Region Nine. The accident occurred at around 8am. The driver of the car is in custody at the Annai police station.
“They were going to the farm,” Mike Williams, a cousin of the Georges told Stabroek News. He said that the incident occurred at a junction where the Rupertee road intersected with the Georgetown-Lethem trail close to Rockview. He said that the speeding car which was heading to Lethem smashed into the motorcycle. The car toppled over several times.
“The motorcycle is in pieces,” he said. The grieving man said that Davis and the Georges sustained multiple injuries including numerous broken bones. Belinda and Davis died on the spot, he said. Henry was about to be medivacced on a Remote Area Medical (RAM) plane but died before it took off.
Williams related that the car was transporting several Brazilians at the time. The police from Lethem were also on the scene and the driver of the car remains in custody as investigations continue.
The Georges have seven children while Davis is survived by his wife and six children, Williams said.
