PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC- Carnival celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago have not hampered preparations by the Red Force for the resumption of the WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) this week, head coach Gus Logie has said.
Logie says the players have not been distracted by the widespread activities associated with the country’s biggest cultural showpiece, headed for a climax with last lap jump-up late Tuesday.
Members of Red Force, who play Guyana Jaguars from tomorrow at the National Cricket Stadium, in Guyana, have been playing at the club level as well as participating in three-day practice matches.
“We have been playing Cricket. We started club season last week,” said Logie, a former West Indies cricketer.
“We had players involved from their respective clubs. Most of them have done well. Got good scores bat and ball and we also had a three-day practice game last week as well”.
After five rounds of matches, Red Force currently sit in fourth position on 37 points with one win and two defeats.
“The carnival season has not hampered us as much we took a few days off for this weekend’s carnival celebration,” Logie pointed out.
“Let the guys go out there and enjoy themselves in moderation at the end of the day get their minds attune to something else at this time and hopefully when we will get together. Everybody will be back together and focused for Friday.”
Logie says confidence is high in the Red Force camp as a result of their victory over Guyana in the Super50 tournament.
“We do have the resources to accomplish a win. We know they are formidable opponent s at home. We feel that we have a little edge against them now having played against them in the 50 over and won. Hopefully we can go there and put one over on them,” said Logie.
